Alcohol Addiction Treatment

Many types of programs exist for anyone seeking alcohol addiction treatment. To find the proper rehab best suited for the individual, it is necessary to know the different types of treatment. The most common program, of the thousands available, is 12-step programs. These programs have a low success rate, but have proven to help some addicts live an alcohol-free life. These programs are often very slow in progress. Different programs have different methods that produce different results. The truth about becoming addicted is uncovered as the individual learns what is happening to their body. It is information that drug education counselors often find the public do not have any knowledge about. Drugs stick to fat in the body and can actually be stored there for years at a time. When fat is burned up it is then released back into the bloodstream, a person can actually become high again when all they did was exercise. All they have to do is some physical activity, and if drugs are still present in the body the chemicals will still affect the body as fat is burned up.

Twelve-Step Program

There are a set of 12 principles outlined in this program. The purpose of this program is to aid the drug addict in their recovery, and is also meant to help with behavioral problems. The problems may consist of gambling, food, sex, and work. These different problems are considered important and are often related to drug use. A very spiritual aspect can be found by seeking God for spiritual strength in overcoming addiction, and is encouraged by twelve-step counselors. The process of working the steps is to dismiss the individual of thinking they are in power, and is meant to guide the addict into a spiritual awakening, achieved through seeking God. Groups are a major part of twelve-step programs. Addicts are encouraged to attend meetings and share about their recovery and any problems they are experiencing involving addiction.

Alcoholics Anonymous is associated with twelve-step programs and actually proposed the idea of the twelve-steps. Alcoholics Anonymous is the largest twelve-step program and following them is Narcotics Anonymous. These programs are not completely confidential. There are no legal obligations to keep information private; however it’s confidential through a word of guarantee by counselors.

Biological Alcohol Treatment

Medication is used to treat alcohol addiction in some cases. A medical detox is used and medical professionals oversee the administration of prescription drugs for the individual experiencing dangerous, and life threatening withdrawals. Drugs are included in this program to prevent relapse. Alcohol addicts have been known to overcome their alcohol addiction only to become addicted to the medication prescribed by medical professionals in the biological treatment program. Drug administration is necessary in some cases in order to prevent seizures, permanent damage to the body or even death. Some programs refer their patients to medical detox before taking over complete custody and responsibility.

Psychological Alcohol Treatment

Counseling and therapy are used to help drug addicts discontinue the use alcohol, and stay sober. One on one session can be done or group sessions. Families of the individual seeking treatment may be present. A very popular form of this type of treatment is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Professionally trained psychologists evaluate patients and help them determine the best route available to take in order to help them overcome their drug addiction. Psychologists may consult family members during or after sessions in able to help the drug addict in their addiction phase.

Narconon

Narconon uses the sauna, or detoxification program. Medications or any other types of other drugs are not used. However, vitamins and minerals are administered daily to keep students undergoing the sauna from having a deficiency.  Those entering the program may require a medical detox if a life threatening situation could occur when they come of off a highly dangerous drug. The drugs requiring medical detox are well-known to Narconon’s addiction counselors. Clients or ‘students’ as Narconon says, go through a sauna program where they can become revitalized and completely clear out any harmful toxins that are in their body. Students are properly looked after as staff members ensure that all students carry water at all times, and take breaks from the sauna room often. Limited increments of time are given to student’s everyday to rid themselves of harmful chemicals and toxins within their body.

Once students participating in the Narconon program have completely finished the sauna, they undergo life skills courses to handle the reason why they took drugs in the first place. Completing this program allows the individual to study courses that enable them to find their own path and purpose in life without having others determine what is best. Narconon allows students to find things out for themselves. For more information over alcohol addiction and the Narconon program call 1-888-824-0448.
